Homework Alert!!! 9/7/12

Sometime tonight or this weekend your child will need to watch a program of some kind: tv show, commercial, news, or movie. Then they will need to write down the main idea of the program and two supporting details. Due Monday.

Homework Alert!!!

Students should have homework tonight 8/28/12 in the following areas:

1. Math pages 5-2 Practice and/or 5-2 Reteach
2. Writing: Worksheet on using appropriate vocabulary

Yummy Cells

This year we were able to make delicious treats from baking materials. Using cake mix, frosting, and various treats, students were able to create animal and plants cells. Animal cells are found in animals like zebras, fish, eagles, and HUMANS!
Plant cells are found in various plants like sunflowers, rosebushes, and maple trees.

The inside of plant and animal cells vary. See if you can spot the difference in these cakes.

Our Trip to the Farm

Hulet has been very fortunate to receive a grant that provides the kids with fresh fruits and veggies. As a way to learn more about where our veggies come from, we took a field trip to Daystar Farms right here in Holbrook!

We all had a great time picking fresh carrots and radishes.

We enjoyed eating lettuce, cilantro, dill, and other leafy greens.

Our class also planted Asian greens which will sprout in about two weeks.

 

We enjoyed being able to learn about where our vegetables come from!

Family Fun and Fitness Night

Wow! What a great way to get everyone in Holbrook involved in exercise! We are so lucky to have Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Haussman who organized such a magnificent night for family fitness. There were activities all over the Hulet Gym and playground to get us up and moving. Thanks to a grant from the government, Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Haussman were able to provide lots of new activities, games, and free food!! I enjoyed the delicious salad and all the toppings!

On the outside playground we had kids Zumba, basketball, hula hoops, and an obstacle course. Although the next day I was sore and exhausted, I had a magnificent time!!

Pi Day

A lot of students find Math to be their favorite subject. There are no shortage for reasons why. Math has interesting equations, applicable geometry, silly memorization techniques, and so many more. Math is a great subject to teach, but the real joy comes from finding the fun in learning.

Pi Day is an annual celebration on March 14th. The equivalency of 3.14 (the shorthand of pi). Pi is a mathematical anomaly which is infinite.

To celebrate Pi Day we made Pi symbol necklaces and ate pie. It was a lot of fun and an experience not likely to be forgotten.
