Character Counts!

Every week we nominate two students as our Classroom Character Counts. These names are taken and placed into a larger jar where one student is picked to be Hulet's Students of the Week. And even harder still when all names from 2nd Quarter are put into a big box and a student is drawn to win a prize.
To earn the nomination in 2nd quarter, we were looking for those students who are both respectful and caring.
Here are Hulet's Students of the Month for 2Q

Pattern Block Creations!

The math center is one of the class' favorite places to be! And no wonder! It's where all the creative magic happens! In my center, we have pattern blocks which students can use to make tessellations (repeating patterns using the same shapes) or they can stack and build. Take a look at some of our creations below!

Thank You Veterans!

Our Veterans Display

Thank you, Veterans. Without your duty and honor our nation would not be a free and independent country. We wanted to recognize those who have bravely served our nation. Thank you parents and students for bringing in pictures and creating beautiful patriotic artwork!

Several students even wrote essays about Veterans' Day. Here are a few:

Why Are Veterans Important?
By: Skylyn

Veterans are important for 5 reasons. My first reason is that they do a lot of sacrifice They sacrifice their life. They miss their children growing up. They keep our country safe. Also, they help us keep our freedom. Then most of them die from wars to keep the freedom and the country. Also they fight for our rights. That's some of my reasons. That's why they are important.

Why Veterans Are Important.

Veterans are important because they sacrificed for us. They also made our country free. Also now people have their rights. Lots of people make the ultimate sacrifice. Also they keep our country safe. Now do you see why veterans are so important!!

First, we have the top nation in the world. One reason is because our veterans. Next, they have done work to protect us. They fought through all the hardship. Veterans keep our country safe. Last, they gave it their life. Conclusion, now do you see why veterans are important.

Fuel Up Assembly

Last Friday, we had a special treat! Some high school students came by Hulet to talk about Fuel Up to Play 60. This national program encourages students to get out and play for 60 minutes every day!
We danced, we sang, we had a great time!

You can stay active every day by doing chores, having a 10 minute dance party, attending a class (dance, Zumba), playing sports, walking the dog, or even by parking at the end of the parking lot.Making healthy decisions will lead to a healthy lifestyle! Stay active!

Red Ribbon Week

Every year the students of the Holbrook Unified School District take time out of their schedules to discuss something VERY IMPORTANT to their future and their health. Doing drugs is something that kids feel pressure about from a very young age. They might be exposed to it at home, in film or movies, in lyrics, or even in school. "Just say no" is really as easy as it sounds. Saying no to drugs will keep you on the right path to high school, future plans, family, etc.

We have all heard stories about how drugs can wreck your life. The best decision you can make is to never start!!!

To celebrate our goal to be drug free, each day we decided to approach it with some aggressive slogans!

On Monday, we decided to "Stick Together as a TEAM and Say NO to Drugs!"
Kids were asked to wear team jerseys or shirts to show how drugs can affect their dreams of becoming NFL, NBA/WNBA, MLB, MLS, or NHL players!

On Tuesday, we approached the topic of drugs by talking about our favorite superheroes and characters. Just like you would NEVER see Captain America or Minnie Mouse doing drugs, kids are SUPER too!!! Don't put that EVIL VILLAIN (DRUGS) into your system!!!!!

On Wednesday, we had a chance to PAINT HOLBROOK RED! We walked through the streets of Holbrook PROUD to be drug free. It's not a bad thing to be drug free. BE PROUD of your choices and CHOOSE TO BE DRUG FREE!

On Thursday, we wanted to be a 'jean'ius! Doing drugs can impact your school work, your future job choices, and is overall an unwise decision! Be a 'JEAN'IUS! Don't do drugs!

Friday is CRAZY HAIR DAY! This is just to show how RIDICULOUS drugs are!! BE DRUG FREE!! JUST SAY NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
