Uh-Oh!! Bracket Busters!!

If you've been following our blog, you know on Thursday we picked our winners for the 2013 NCAA Men's Basketball. Some of us used our gut, some picked based off of ranking, and others picked off of win-loss records. We've had great upsets, great picks, but statisically it's a mathematical nightmare! Anything can happen at any time.
Some of us have already lost when our pick got out in the first rounds of the tournament! :(

Mrs. T--Memphis
Adrian--UNM
Madison-- LaSalle (really picking the upset here!)
Jadin--Michigan
Nishoni--Miami
Dominic--Michigan
Samantha--Miami
Natasia--Miami
Tyler--Miami

Jelena--Miami
Orin--Michigan
Gabrielle--Gonzaga (same pick as Kid President)
April--Miami
Donovan--Gonzaga
TJ--Notre Dame (lucky for TJ this isn't football.. :))
Kobi--Indiana (same pick as President Obama)
Natasha--Miami
Ellie--Gonzaga
Cami--UNLV
Kyle--Arizona
Zavion--Michigan
DeVonta--Arizona

Can't wait to check back in a few days from now to see how well our picks have lasted!

NCAA Tournament/Bracketology.

It's always been a tradition between my husband and I to try our hand at the NCAA bracketology to see whose strategy wins out. This year is no different!

As an added bonus our class has decided to pick our own brackets. Some of us used the rankings 1-16, some of us used win-lose information, and honestly some of us used names and/or mascots to pick our teams.

Check out our favorite kid, Kid President, and his picks for this year's bracket!
Kid President picks Gonzaga!

Our President also picks his bracket for 2013.
President picks Indiana

And finally, our picks for the 2013 NCAA Tournament:
Mrs. T--Memphis
Adrian--UNM
Madison-- LaSalle (really picking the upset here!)
Jadin--Michigan
Nishoni--Miami
Dominic--Michigan
Samantha--Miami
Natasia--Miami
Tyler--Miami

Jelena--Miami
Orin--Michigan
Gabrielle--Gonzaga (same pick as Kid President)
April--Miami
Donovan--Gonzaga
TJ--Notre Dame (lucky for TJ this isn't football.. :))
Kobi--Indiana (same pick as President Obama)
Natasha--Miami
Ellie--Gonzaga
Cami--UNLV
Kyle--Arizona
Zavion--Michigan
DeVonta--Arizona

We have some home state pride from Kyle and DeVonta. Some long shot dreamers from Cami, TJ, and Madison. With the popular votes going to Miami, all we can do is wait and see!!

Who are you picking to win?
And which logic did you choose--statistics, gut, or math?

Pi Day

It's a mathematician's favorite day of the year: Pi Day. If you've ever wondered where exactly the term "pi" came from, well you can wonder no longer. I googled it for you: "Greek letter (“π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant." The symbol for pi represents an infinite number that never repeats. We call it 3.14 (March 14th) for short.

To celebrate Pi Day we made Pi necklaces and listened to an awesome rap about pi!
