AIMS Ticket Winners!

Every year the fine people at our local movie theater donate movie passes for students who are noticed for working hard and taking their time on AIMS. There are 4 tickets that can be awarded based on student work and achievement. ALL of the students did a wonderful job! They each selected the best answer, used their knowledge from the year, and did the best they could on AIMS. It was so difficult to select only 4, so all names were placed into a cup for selection! These 4 students have won a free movie pass, small popcorn, and drink to any movie until April 2014!

Congratulations to:
Natasha, Jadin, Ellie, & Dominic!

Fuel Up to Play 60: Ambassadors

written by: Mrs. Peters
Ellie and Kobi  from Hulet Elementary in Holbrook were selected as Local Student Ambassadors for the Fuel Up to Play 60 program.
Fuel Up to Play 60 is an in-school nutrition and physical activity program launched by the National Dairy Council and the NFL, in collaboration with the USDA, to help encourage today’s youth to lead healthier lives.
As Student Ambassador’s Kobi and Ellie will have a greater voice in Fuel Up to Play 60 and will be working to inspire healthy changes for themselves, their schools and their communities.
To be selected as a Fuel Up to Play 60 Local Student Ambassador one must maintain efforts to make healthy changes in their personal life, school and community. Be a registered participant in Fuel Up to Play 60. Complete the Fuel Up to Play 60 Student Ambassador Application and the Letter of Commitment. The application consists of a series of questions to determine how the student has activated Fuel up to Play 60 in their life, what the program means to them and how they are going to make a difference in their school and or community.
The Student Ambassador Program will allow Ellie and Kobi to make a difference in their school and community by encouraging others to do the same. As Student Ambassador’s they are committed to help organize school events that focus on nutrition and or physical activity. Take an active role in helping spread the word about Fuel Up to Play 60. Participate in volunteer opportunities within their school and community. Finally they will work to set a positive example for their peers by maintaining legal and ethical integrity.
Kobi and Ellie have participated and supported many of the FUTP 60 activities this year at Hulet. They have participated in Hulet’s Race Across America and have set up and organized some of the “Activity Zones” used during recess at Hulet. They have worked at the family nights supporting the “Milk Mustache Booth” and have participated in many of the monthly nutrition events and challenges. Currently they are providing support and assistance with the Healthy Holbrook Family Fun and Fitness night scheduled on May 15th. They will finish the year by planning a nutrition “Play” (activity) for Hulet’s  field day scheduled on May 17th.
Congratulations to Ellie and Kobi being selected as Local Student Ambassadors for Fuel Up to Play 60.

Upcoming Assignments & Late Work

This week we are managing several deadlines for work. In order to keep our schedule a little more flexible next week (AIMS testing), we have some upcoming deadlines that I want you to be aware of.

1. Writing: Students need to bring their treasured item by Friday 4/12
2. Grammar: Lesson 26-29 should be completed
3. Spelling: Lesson 29--due Thursday
4. Math: 9-7, 9-8, 9-9 are all due Friday 4/12 (It is over adding, subtracting, and reducing fractions)
5. Reading: Myths essay, final draft, due Friday February 12th. Students can take it home over the weekend to complete and turn it in on Monday. At that time, points will be deducted.
6. Novel: We are reading Island of the Blue Dolphins. Students will be assigned chapters to read over the weekend.

Late Work:
Currently students are missing work in the following areas
1. Planet Report
2. Solar System Outline
3. Phases of the Moon (Picture)
4. L27, 28 Spelling Test
5. Bridge to Terabithia Sandwich Report (was due before spring break!)

I would like these things to be turned in as soon as possible!! We don't want to have these lingering assignments keeping students in from recess during AIMS week! Less stress!! :)

Thanks for your help!

NCAA Winner

As you know the Men's Final of the NCAA tournament took place last night! It was a great game. That's what I love about college sports. It's for the glory of winning for your school. The name on the front that means more than the name on your back! And while not all players are enthralled with playing just for pride, it's refreshing to watch a season of sports without worrying about trades and contracts!

This final four season brought about one of the WORST injuries I have ever seen!! I couldn't believe the amount of pain Ware, from Louisville, must have been in! OUCH!!!

The championship game was hard fought! Louisville pulled it out to become the 2013 NCAA Men's Champion. While no one picked Louisville to win it all, Jadin, Zavi, Dominic, and Orin did pick Michigan, which made it to the Finals!

I hope you enjoyed seeing our updates on brackets! They can try again next year by downloading their brackets in March from ESPN or CBS Sports.

Last week of brackets!

If you've been following our blog, you know on before Spring Break we picked our winners for the 2013 NCAA Men's Basketball. Some of us used our gut, some picked based off of ranking, and others picked off of win-loss records. We've had great upsets, great picks, but statisically it's a mathematical nightmare! Anything can happen at any time.

Looks like only Michigan remains!! Final Four!

Jadin--Michigan
Nishoni--Miami
Dominic--Michigan
Samantha--Miami
Natasia--Miami

Can't wait to check back in a few days from now to see how well our picks have lasted!

School's Back!

Don't forget school resumes tomorrow!! I hope that you are ready to get ready after spring break to attack those AIMS questions and get prepared for AIMS?
