Halloween Around the World

Our class researched and put together books taking make-believe trips around the world for Halloween. Each book was written, drawn, and colored by the students in our class. They each did a phenomenal job. They have been hanging outside our classroom since Halloween day and will be coming down! You will get to see them in their entirety at the end of the year. Until then, they will stay here with us at school in each student's folder. I am so proud of the hard work they put into it. They were truly works of art.

Cuties for Cuties :)

As you may know Hulet lost its program for Fresh Fruits and Veggies from the state of Arizona. But that doesn't stop our awesome school from providing these yummy snacks for us anyways! We had cuties today as our snack. Yum! Yum!

Thanks Veterans!!!

This Veterans Day I want to send a special thank you to all those men and women who have served in our Armed Forces. A special shout out to my brother Ryan who is currently deployed to the Middle East. I love you Ryan! Stay Safe!!!!

From Gabrielle:

Dear Veterans,
Thank you for your help and I think about people that died for us. When they go off to war I will always remember the people that are trying to keep our country free and safe. I am thankful to the people that served for the Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Marines. My family likes to celebrate Veterans Day with my family on November 11. I wish that there was no more war because a lot of kids died from the war. When WWI started, my mom and her family were scared because they were all women and kids like me and my brothers. I wasn’t born when it happened. I like to be free and safe with my family. I have a cousin that is going to join the Army. I am really sorry to the people that fought for our country and died. I have a blanket that has a teddy bear holding up a flag and sitting down smiling. I’m thankful to be free. Thanks to you veterans. I’m safe because of you.
Sincerely,
               Gabrielle

Halloween Party 2012

I hope each of you had a "boo"tiful time celebrating Halloween. We were able to get the party started with our school Halloween party. I appreciate all the parents that provided snacks for our party. We had a variety of healthy snacks and very little candy. (I'm sure they stocked up on candy that night anyways!) During the last hour of the day, we celebrated Halloween with one of my favorite movies, "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!" Some students dressed in their costumes and at the end we had a fun dance party. All in all it was a "ghoul"tastic Halloween!

Check out our pictures below!
Dominic, Nishoni, and Natasha enjoying our treats!

DeVonta eating delicious apple snacks!
Fairy, Indiana Jones, Nurse, Vampire, Batman, Suns Mascot, Katniss, and Zombie showed up to the party!

Marie and April starting the dance party circle!

Jadin busting out some good moves!

Zavi's enjoying our dance party!

Dance!!

Having a good time!!

Veterans Day

Dear Parents/Guardians,
As you may know the Veterans Day program will be next Friday, November 9th.  As a class, we’d like to honor those family members who have served in the military. We’d like to do this by bringing in pictures of those members of our family who have served.
To contribute we will need a picture of that family member, the branch of military, and the dates (or estimated dates) of time served.  You and your child may write a short paragraph about them at home. If you cannot get it completed at home, bring it to school and we will make time here. The pictures and essays will be hanging in the hallway.
Since last year my brother, Ryan, has been deployed to the Middle East. Following Veterans Day we will begin to write letters and send packages to soldiers stationed overseas. More details about this idea will follow.
I look forward to collaborating on this project with you and your child!

Homework Alert!!

Parents--
We are getting to the middle of the 9 weeks. Your child has been instructed to find and turn in some missing assignments, or late work assignments. Their name is currently written on the board with the missing work above it.
Here are some of the assignments your child may have work in:
  • Grammar Lessons 6-10.
  • Spelling Lesson 11
  • Finish reading independent novel and take Reading Counts test.
  • Reading Lesson 9: Leonardo's Horse/Mona Lisa
  • Halloween Around the World book
  • Any novel group work from lessons 8, 9, or 11.
  • Science--HUMAN BODY. We will be moving on to Weather next. Any and all human body things will need to be turned in.
I am still missing signed folders. Remember that signed folders must be signed every Friday, Saturday, or Sunday and returned to school on Monday. I am able to answer your questions, respond to notes, and check your child's work using this folder. It's very important that this folder is returned on Mondays!

Keep an eye out for our upcoming Veterans tribute. Letters will be coming home tomorrow!

Drug Free at Hulet Elementary!

As you know drug free week is the last week in October. This year we had many different ways to celebrate being drug free--crazy hair day, hat day, team jersey day, red day, and hippie day. The most important part of drug free week is being drug free. Drugs can ruin your life. People who use and abuse drugs and alcohol can lose their friends, their health, their family, and even their life. Join with us and be drug free for life!

We had two students win 2nd and 3rd place with their Drug Free Poetry!

3rd place winner: Tyler

Drug Free
Drugs make your teeth
Rot and make them
Ugly. It isn’t
Good to
Frequently do these horrible drugs, so join
Red ribbon week with
Every child in Hulet Elementary
Everyone is cool if they don’t do drugs.
Money shouldn’t be used to buy drugs for eternity.
Everyone should not use drugs!
So be DRUG FREE!

2nd place winner: Cameron

No Drugs, No Way!
The best me is drug free
and if I’m not free I’m not me.
There’s too much for me to be
So I’m going to be drug free.
Free at Hulet Elementary.
Just like you should be
Drugs are like bugs.
But I’d rather just have hugs.

Every poem was written with the great understanding of how drugs can mess up your life! Check out our other great poetry as well!!

Adrian:

The Best Me is Drug Free
Drug Free is the way I want to be.
I also want to be free.
I don’t care what people think.
In a blink of an eye.
I’ll be drug free!

Gabrielle:

The Best Me is Drug Free
Gabrielle likes to be drug free.
You can only stomp out drugs with lots of hugs
And you can stamp out smoke bugs with hugs.
The best me is to be drug free.

Kobi:

The Best Me is Drug Free
I like basketball
I was dribbling down the hall
Someone asked me to smoke
I said I might choke.
I don’t do drugs
Because I don’t get hugs.
The best me is drug free
and I will be the only Kobi.

DeVonta:

Be Drug Free!
If you do drugs you won’t be free.
I am free to be.
Don’t mess up your life,
because that’s not nice.
Smoking will affect your life.
Don’t chew
it’s bad for you.
It will mess up your attitude.
If you heard my rhymes
You know I did no crimes.
So be the best me.
Be drug free!

Marie:

Marie is Drug Free
Marie is drug free.
It’s a good way to be.
We can live together for eternity.

I like to read.
It’s a good way to feel free.
It helps your brain learn more.

You have to stomp on drug bugs
So you don’t get the suggs.
And you kill them with jugs.

The best me is to be drug free
You can be free
and play sports by the tree.

April:

Best Me is Drug Free
It’s the best me to be
drug free
of all the country
Drugs that attack your body and lungs
that make them black.
You make the teams with no drugs.
Don’t say anything to drug users!

Nishoni:

No Drugs!
The best
me is
drug free
it’s also the way to be.
Forget drugs
and just give hugs.
Make your future bright
Not dark like in the night.
Don’t smoke
or sometimes you’ll choke.
When you drink, mate.
You’ll never get a date.
If you do drugs
you go to jail
and you’ll never graduate from Hail.
I’m Nishoni
And the best me is DRUG FREE!

Ellie:

The Best Me is Drug Free

The best me is drug free
I don’t do drugs because I want to be healthy
I like to be happy
I like to be clean
I want to show others what life can be
if you are drug free
I want to be the best I can be
I want to be drug free

Dominic:

I like to be me
I like hugs
I like bugs
I like rugs, mugs, jugs, and pugs.
I don’t like thugs, slugs, and drugs.

I like to be me, free,
and in a group of we.
I really like to be drug free.
But the best me is drug free.

Jadin:

Drug Free
The best me is drug free
because I won’t be in jail you see
I am drug free because I am meant to be
drug free.
I like to be really happy
instead of really snappy.
I would like to be in a meadow
instead of being yellow.

Madison:

Hugs, Not Drugs
Stop drugs
instead give hugs
Drugs give your throat pain
and drains out your brain.
So get away from me
because I am drug free
for eternity.
Be like me
Forever drug free!

Natasha:

I love to be me
I love to be free
I also love being the best me
I want to be clean
I want to be the best me
and be drug free!

The best me is drug free
Don’t drink Bud Light,
instead have a Sprite
Have hugs and not  drugs
If you use dope,
I hope you use soap.

If you do drugs
Stay away from me
Cause I’m trying to be
the best me I can be.

Nevaeh:

 Drug Free
The best of me is drug free
I love to read
Reading makes you smart

Drugs make you smell bad
Drugs make your teeth yellow
You can DIE!

Be like Nevaeh
Don’t start!
Be smart!

Jelena:

No Drugs!
Drugs make your breath stink
Resist drugs
Ugly you will be.
Good you will feel when you quit.
Free you will be.
Rejoin with me to be drug free.
Enter fear with the good stuff.
Exit the world of drugs!

Orin:

The Best Me is Drug Free
The best me is to be drug free
Just like Bruce Lee
But if I start smoking
it is just like choking
and plus being broken
But if you drink,
you will never have a graduation
but have to take a navigation.

Zavi:

Drug Free

Drug free is the way to be free
at the end of the tere
to stomp on drug bugs with me
and you will be with me.

Natasia:

Hugs, Not Drugs!
Drug free is the way to be
When the drug bugs come to me
I say no way, Jose!
I’m a drug free girl!
If I do drugs,
I won’t get hugs.
I’ll be bad at sports.
If I let the drug bugs get me.
I won’t be proud of me.
